IBA meets IBA in Basel
"IBA meets IBA" was conceived from the start as a changing travelling exhibition:
after the start in Hamburg the project stopped off in Basel on its journey through Europe and came across the lively discussion on the opportunities and chances for a first trinational IBA in 2020.
There were various aspects in focus here, at the intersection of the three countries: Switzerland, France and Germany. On the one hand, the realisation that there were 100 years of tradition of international building exhibitions in Germany, the presentation of the special features of past and current IBAs – but also meditation on a re-definition for building exhibitions in the 21st century.
With Basel as a location, the exhibition of M:AI and IBA Hamburg GmbH sparked a lively discussion on the opportunities and chances of a future building exhibition. Combined with an exhibition of students' works showing future-oriented urban planning models for the city of Basel, this first overall exhibition on the major IBAs in Germany offered an opportunity to start to think about new concepts for the further development of the Basel urban region and its partner regions.
